Who writes this site

Spooky October Melbourne is an independent editorial project covering Halloween in Melbourne: haunted house formats, family activities, costume ideas, and the history of Spooktober, the Halloween festival that used to run in St Kilda. We are not the festival's organiser, past or present, and we have no business relationship with whoever ran it in previous years.

The festival itself published its own "about us" page during its run, setting out who was behind the event at the time, and other sites covering Melbourne's Halloween calendar linked to it under the festival's own name. That page belonged to the organiser, not to us. We started this project later, as outside writers researching and documenting Halloween in Melbourne, including what that festival once offered.

What we do and do not do

We write guides to haunted house formats, scare levels, costume ideas and family-friendly Halloween activities, and we keep a plain record of former Spooktober attractions and events for anyone curious about the festival's history in St Kilda. We do not sell tickets, take bookings, process payments, or recruit scare actors or volunteers for any event. If a page mentions a past attraction, it is describing history, not something you can currently buy a ticket to.

Where we describe something as currently true, such as a transport tip or a general safety point, we mean it as ongoing advice rather than a claim about one specific event's current programme.

How we research

We draw on publicly available sources, past event listings, local news coverage and general knowledge of how haunted attractions and Halloween festivals typically operate, to write both the historical and the practical sections of this site. We do not invent quotes, attendance figures or reviews. When we are not confident about a specific historical detail, we either leave it out or describe it in general terms rather than guessing at specifics.

Corrections and independence

If you notice an error, were involved with the original festival and want something corrected, or have a source we should credit, our contact page has a direct way to reach the editorial team. For the wider range of formats we cover beyond the festival's own history, our haunted house guide is a good next stop, and our info section covers the practical questions most visitors ask.

Why keep writing about a festival that has ended

Spooktober left a reasonable amount of coverage behind it: news pieces, listing sites and photos from the years it ran in St Kilda. That history is still useful to people researching Halloween in Melbourne, whether they are curious about what the area once offered or just want context before visiting a different haunted house today. We think that history is worth recording accurately rather than letting it disappear or get mixed up with whatever runs under a similar name later, which is part of why this site exists as a standalone, independent project rather than a continuation of the original festival.
